I have completed a new portrait over the weekend, see above. It is a self portrait of me in my Karate Suit (also known as a Gi), doing the preparation for Knifehand block or Shuto Uke.
I’m pleased with the hand that is stretched out, as it looks effective and almost seems to come out of the canvas.
The bits I am not pleased with are several. I am not happy with the initial photograph, as it was done on an Ipad and was taken from waist height. This means that the perspective is skewed. This explains why the other hand looks small too. Finally, I would like to get a more realistic finish to the portrait. I will need to research techniques that will help me to accomplish this.
Overall, I’m pleased with the work and have identified areas that can be improved.
